This service works to tackle, and support the victims of, culturally specific abuse, including forced marriage and female genital mutilation.

This service is delivered by Savera UK, a specialist charity that campaigns to eliminate 'honour’-based abuse and harmful practices as well as providing confidential, life-saving services to those at risk, regardless of age, culture, sexuality or gender.

Savera UK advocate for those who need a voice and offer a completely confidential and non-judgemental service.

National research indicates that the reporting rate for such crime is as low as 5%.

The most common forms of Harmful Practice are Honour Based Violence (HBV), Female Genital mutilation or cutting (FGM/C) and Forced Marriage (FM).

The primary aim of the service is to help the victim cope and recover from their experience, and to raise awareness of such practices within Merseyside.

Savera help to address the survivors physical and mental health needs, particular in instances where women and girls have undergone FGM/C, FM, HBV, and Emerging Harmful Practice, for example breast ironing and child abuse linked to faith or belief.

The service also supports the victim’s family / support network when it is safe to do so.

They also work to help survivors to rebuild their lives.

By providing emotional and practical support, they help survivors to gain economic independence and move forward into their future with confidence.
