Independent Domestic Violence Advisors or IDVAs are trained specialists who work to protect victims of domestic abuse and make sure they are able to access the support, care and services they need.

Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs) are specially trained to work with people who have experienced domestic abuse.

Living with and leaving an abusive situation is complex, sometimes dangerous and never easy.

An IDVA’s main priority is to work with you to increase the safety of you and your family. The most serious case will be referred to an IDVA, who will work from the point of crisis to help you understand the full range of options available to you. As well as emotional support, you may need help, information and advice on a number of matters including housing, children, finances or criminal and civil proceedings.

An IDVA is independent from all other agencies and their service is optional: you can decide not to take up the offer of support but, if at any time you change your mind and want to talk they are there to help.

Your safety is their priority.
